After the increase in fuel oil prices, now launch fares have also been increased. Fares have been increased by 23 paisa per kilometer for the first 100 kilometers and by 20 paisa for distances over 100 kilometers.
Earlier, launch owners had demanded a 51 to 60 percent fare increase per passenger per kilometer. A letter was also sent to Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam making this demand.

In the letter, it was proposed to increase the fare for the first 100 kilometers from Tk 2.95 to Tk 4.45 and for each subsequent kilometer from Tk 2.52 to Tk 4.02.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification increasing bus and minibus fares by 17 paisa per kilometer as well.
