Finding and protecting the truth is a journalist's main task: Quader Gani Chowdhury

He said this at an exchange meeting organized by the New York Bangladesh Press Club in Jackson Heights, New York, USA, on Tuesday night. The meeting was organized with journalists who had gone from Bangladesh and journalists working in New York on the occasion of the United Nations General Assembly session.

Quader Gani Chowdhury said, journalism must be based on truth. There is no place here for falsehood or half-truth. There is no alternative to objective journalism to retain people's trust. At the same time, along with freedom, journalists must also keep in mind the issue of responsibility.

He said, journalism cannot survive on the basis of any party banner. If people's trust is lost, the dignity of journalism is undermined. He called for playing a truthful and responsible role to keep journalism as a profession of honor.

Highlighting that although the number of media outlets has increased, many organizations lack an institutional framework, Quader Gani Chowdhury said proper application of the law is needed to stop allegations of yellow journalism, harassment, and blackmail. At the same time, caution must be maintained to prevent misuse of the law.

He also emphasized the implementation of the wage board and unity among journalists. According to him, a united stance by journalists can play an effective role in solving various problems of the media.
