In the speech, he is scheduled to speak on Bangladesh's democratic progress, rule of law and accountability, global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, economic cooperation, youth and women's empowerment, education and health, and reform of the multilateral system. Prime Minister Tarek Rahman to deliver speech in Bengali at UN General Assembly today
The Prime Minister will call for increasing the role of the international community in a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis. The issue has also been discussed in meetings with UN Special Envoy for Myanmar Julie Bishop and UNHCR chief Barham Saleh. Bangladesh will highlight the need for safe, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya as well as a political solution to the crisis.
Importance is also being given to economic diplomacy during the visit. On 25 September, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with representatives of Wall Street. There, Bangladesh's investment potential, economy and business cooperation may be discussed.

In addition, the Prime Minister has met with the top leadership of Turkey, Bhutan, the Maldives and Haiti. There are also scheduled meetings with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. These meetings will discuss bilateral relations, trade, investment and matters of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister's father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, addressed the UN General Assembly on 26 August 1980, and his mother, former Prime Minister late Khaleda Zia, addressed it on 1 October 1993. With Tarek Rahman's speech today, a new chapter is set to be added to the continuity of the Zia family's presence at the United Nations.
