Local government elections may be held in January: EC Anwarul
Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that local government elections may begin in January next year.

He said this while talking to media personnel at the Election Commission in Agargaon on Thursday. He said that elections are not being organized at that time because educational institutions have annual examinations in November-December.

He said that although the Election Commission had earlier announced a possible date, it has been reconsidered due to the start of annual examinations in educational institutions. It is hoped that local government elections will begin in January.

Claiming that the election date was not postponed due to any pressure from the government, he said that the Election Commission determines dates by considering realities, law, and constitutional matters.
