At the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister congratulated the newly elected President of the General Assembly and paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War as well as those killed and injured in the July-August 2024 movement. He also highlighted Bangladesh's recent political change and his government's priorities.

Regarding the Rohingya crisis, the Prime Minister said that sheltering more than 1.2 million Rohingyas displaced from Myanmar for a long time has created pressure on Bangladesh's resources, environment, security, and local population. Noting that the source of the crisis is in Myanmar, he called on the international community for effective support for the safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas and to continue humanitarian assistance until repatriation takes place.

Referring to conflicts in various regions of the world, Tareq Rahman said that any dispute should be resolved through discussion, diplomacy, and mutual cooperation. He reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to disarmament, preventing nuclear weapons proliferation, and arms control.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Bangladesh's support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the demand for an independent state. He also highlighted Bangladesh's contribution to UN peacekeeping missions and its role in the Peacebuilding Commission in establishing peace.

The Prime Minister said the United Nations must play a more effective role in building a consensual world society that respects mutual independence and sovereignty. His speech also touched on global economic pressures, energy security, and the crisis of displaced people.

In his speech, the Prime Minister also recalled the memories of his father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, giving speeches on behalf of Bangladesh at the United Nations.
