Government is taking initiative to nationalize Alia madrasas in 8 divisions

On Thursday (September 24), several senior officials of the Ministry of Education and the Madrasa Education Board gave this information to the media. They said that although the matter is still at an initial stage, those concerned are discussing the need to nationalize madrasas positively.

An official of the Madrasa and Technical Education Division said that although there are government schools and colleges in various districts of the country, there are only three government Alia madrasas. The issue of making madrasas government came up in several meetings with the Education Minister. He expressed hope that progress could be made on this matter during this government's term.

Currently, there are three government Alia madrasas in the country—Government Madrasa-e-Alia in Dhaka, Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa, and Government Mustafabia Alia Madrasa. In contrast, there are 65,569 government primary schools and 708 government colleges in the country. There are 694 government secondary schools.

Those concerned said that there are 8,229 private MPO-enlisted madrasas in the country. Due to the low number of government Alia madrasas at the division and district levels, many students are deprived of the opportunity to study in government institutions. Therefore, they believe that initially there is a need to nationalize madrasas at the divisional level.

Chairman of the Madrasa Education Board Professor Khondaker Mohammad Sadequr Rahman said that madrasa students are making their position in higher education through hard work. If madrasas are nationalized, students will get the opportunity to study at lower cost, and the quality of education will also increase.
