‘At the ministerial-level roundtable on technology-facilitated violence against women and girls of the G-77 and emerging partners,’ she said, Bangladesh has strengthened legal and institutional initiatives to protect women and girls.

Shama Obaid said that measures have been taken for speedy investigation and trial, legal assistance, social protection, rehabilitation, safe shelter, and mental health support. She also highlighted the special ‘Pink Bus Service’ launched to ensure safe public transport for women.

Highlighting Bangladesh's role in protecting women in conflict-affected situations, the State Minister mentioned Bangladesh's contribution to UN peacekeeping operations and its support for Rohingya women and girls who have taken shelter in the country.

She also highlighted the Bangladesh-led ‘Dhaka Dialogue’ initiative to prevent digital harassment. Under this initiative, work is underway to develop voluntary guidelines for preventing, investigating, and addressing digital harassment. She called on member states to join the initiative's ‘Group of Friends’.

The meeting, organized by Croatia and UN Women, discussed emerging digital threats against women and girls, including online harassment, defamation, identity fraud, and AI-driven abuse.
