He said these while speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the ‘DUDS-ActionAid National Debate Festival 2026’ at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University on Saturday (26 September). Twenty-four teams from various universities across the country are participating in this debate competition.
The minister said, students are the future leaders of the country. Therefore, preparations must be made from now to fulfill future responsibilities. However, even if they play a role in politics, social policy or economics, studies must not be neglected in any way.
He said, debate helps students develop logic-based thinking, expression of opinions and leadership qualities. At the same time, students' knowledge and skills must be increased by participating in various creative and co-curricular activities.
Recalling his student life, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan said that nearly 60 years ago, while he was a student of Fazlul Huq Hall at Dhaka University, he participated in debate competitions and had the experience of being champion for three consecutive years by representing the hall.
He said that quality education and research are among the main foundations of the country's progress. To preserve the tradition of Dhaka University, teachers and students must properly fulfill their respective responsibilities. At the same time, he called for building the debating society as an effective platform for developing education, knowledge, skills and leadership alongside debate.
