Criminal action alongside departmental punishment if involved in crime: Home Minister

He said this while speaking as chief guest at the medal award ceremony of ‘Police Week 2026’ at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh in the capital on Saturday.

The Home Minister said that embracing the public aspirations of the July student-mass uprising, the police must be built as a modern, technology-driven, humane and people-friendly institution. Gaining the public's trust is the greatest strength of the police.

He said the government is working to build a police force that is modern in skills and professionalism, capable in technology, humane in behavior and impartial in law enforcement. He also said reforms of various police agencies and strengthening of the legal framework are being carried out while maintaining international human rights standards.

At the event, 92 members of the Bangladesh Police were awarded BPM, BPM-Service, PPM and PPM-Service medals in recognition of bravery, integrity, efficiency, dedication, crime control, unraveling the mysteries of important cases and contributions to public service.

IGP Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Monzur Morshed Chowdhury and senior officials of the Police Headquarters were present at the event.
