He made the announcement at the opening ceremony of the ‘Special Cleanliness Week’ organized by DNCC on Saturday to destroy dengue larvae and prevent them.
The administrator said that cleanliness drives, mobile courts, and public awareness activities have been ongoing for the past three months to prevent dengue. Drives are being conducted under the leadership of 10 executive magistrates. He also said there is a goal to make the DNCC area dengue-free within the next three months.
He said it is not possible to control dengue by the city corporation alone. For that, cooperation from city residents is needed. At the same time, he directed that illegal posters and leaflets pasted on metro rail pillars be removed on their own responsibility within 72 hours. Otherwise, he warned of strict action.
Regarding footpath occupation, Shafiqul Islam Khan said footpaths are for people's movement. From now on, no notice will be given in the case of conducting business by occupying footpaths; wherever occupation is found, eviction drives will be conducted there through mobile courts.
After the event, special dustbins were inaugurated under the metro rail for dumping garbage. Later, under the leadership of the administrator, a rally and an eviction drive against illegal structures were conducted in the Mirpur-10 fruit market area.
