Administration takes responsibility for education of child who fed tea and bread to father tied to post

On Sunday noon, officials of the Department of Narcotics Control took Anik to a drug rehabilitation center from his home in the Bamrail area. Earlier, on Saturday, UNO Mohammad Ali Suja went to his home, inquired about the family, and provided humanitarian assistance.

It is reported that early on September 26, some local people detained Anik at Bamrail Bazar on theft allegations, tied him to a post, and beat him. Hearing the news, his 9-year-old daughter rushed there. At one point, while pleading for them not to beat her father, she brought tea and bread and fed her father.

While dipping bread in tea and putting it into her father's mouth, the child also stroked the painful parts of his body and asked, ‘Are you in a lot of pain, Baba?’ When the video spread on social media, it sparked widespread discussion.

Locals alleged that Anik had also faced theft allegations before. However, these allegations could not be independently verified. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rakibul Islam of Uzirpur Model Police Station said that after seeing the video, police went to the scene, but locals settled the matter among themselves. No written complaint was filed at the police station regarding this incident.

The administration has said that taking responsibility for the child's education is being considered. Besides, it has been learned locally that various individuals and organizations have also assured the child of educational and financial support.

Whether the theft allegation is true or false is a matter to be determined through legal process. However, taking the law into one's own hands, publicly beating him, and doing such a thing in front of the child have raised questions anew. At the same time, the scene of the child's love for her father has touched people's hearts.
