A festival of oppression has begun everywhere: Mahmudur Rahman Manna

On Monday (28 September), he said these things at a discussion meeting titled ‘State Reform and Constitution Debate’ organized by Nagorik Oikya at the National Press Club.

Expressing concern over the law and order situation, Manna said that in post-uprising Bangladesh, a situation in which women fear going outside and there is uncertainty about children's safety is not desirable. He also questioned the purpose of state reform if adolescents are not given the opportunity to grow up normally.

Manna also alleged that the general secretary of Nagorik Oikya was arrested by the Shibganj police station in Bogura without any specific case. He also claimed that bail opportunities in lower courts and district judge courts have become limited.

Criticizing the economic situation, Manna said that although fuel oil prices have fallen in the international market, prices have been increased in Bangladesh. At the same time, he expressed concern over the rise in prices of daily necessities, including rice, pulses, oil, and salt, in the market.

Regarding state reform and the constitution, Manna said that to stop the path of authoritarian rule in the future, along with political and constitutional reforms, decentralization of power must be ensured. He called for not rushing to amend the constitution and for deciding after discussions with political parties and stakeholders.

Emphasizing the implementation of the July Charter and properly honoring the mandate of the referendum, Manna said that no decision should be taken that harms the country's democratic trend and people's fundamental rights.
