On Tuesday, Supreme Court lawyer Md. Mahmudul Hasan Mamun sent this notice in the public interest to the Cabinet Secretary, the Secretaries of the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Fisheries, the Director General of the Department of Fisheries, and the NBR Chairman.

Legal notice on halting Hilsa export to India
The notice says that at present the price of one-kilogram Hilsa in the domestic market is about Tk 2,600 to Tk 3,000. In this situation, it has been alleged that Hilsa was exported to India at a comparatively lower price in the past.
It further alleges that some Indian importers are taking Hilsa from Bangladesh and re-exporting it to various markets in the United States, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe for profit.

The notice requested refraining from any administrative or policy decision regarding Hilsa exports to India within the next seven days, controlling supply and prices in the domestic market, and formulating a permanent policy for exporting Hilsa directly to the international market by excluding middlemen.
