Discussion over electricity bill post, NCP leader arrested in Awami League procession case

He was arrested from his own house in Barama village on Sunday night. He is a member of the Sreepur Upazila convening committee of NCP.

Ashraful's family claims that he posted on Facebook because the electricity bill was high, and later deleted it. However, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam of Sreepur Police Station said he was not arrested because of that post.

Police said Ashraful was arrested as a suspected accused in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the incident of a torch procession by leaders and activists of the banned Awami League in the Jainabazar area on September 21. Later, he was produced before a court.

The upazila branch of NCP has protested the arrest of Ashraful. The organization's convener, Abu Rayhan Mezbah, demanded his release. A protest march was also held at Barmi Bazar on Monday night demanding his release.
