Fake Tk 507 crore electricity bill, Magura Palli Bidyut GM dismissed

On the urgent directive of Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, the Rural Electrification Board took this measure on Wednesday. After learning about the matter, the minister himself spoke over the phone with the affected customer and expressed sorrow for the incident.

In the name of Mosa. Alea Khatun, wife of retired teacher Shahidul Islam of Kechuadubi village in Maghi union of Magura Sadar upazila, a bill of Tk 506 crore 83 lakh 11 thousand 593 was issued for September against 235 units.

Preliminary investigation revealed that during meter replacement, due to inadvertence, the digits of the seal number were posted in the demand charge cell, creating this abnormal bill. Later, the bill was corrected and the correct bill was delivered to the customer.

The minister also directed that departmental and punitive action be taken against other officials and employees involved in the incident. At the same time, he assured that any complaint regarding electricity service would be resolved quickly and with importance.
