Protest in Delhi demanding CEC's resignation, 500 detained

Among those detained were Delhi's former Chief Minister Atishi, Aam Aadmi Party's Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj, social activist Yogendra Yadav and All India Students' Association president Neha Bora. Congress workers and members of various student organizations also tried to join the protest.

The program was announced raising allegations of irregularities in the special intensive revision process of the voter list. However, Delhi Police said no permission had been taken for the program. Holding national flags, protesters chanted slogans demanding the CEC's resignation.

The protesters alleged that a huge number of people's names were dropped during the voter list revision. Some protesters also alleged that their own and their family members' names were not on the list.

However, the Election Commission rejected these allegations, saying the entire revision process is being portrayed through a few isolated incidents. CEC Gyanesh Kumar did not personally comment on the matter.

Before the protest, police tightened security in and around Jantar Mantar. Barricades were set up on various roads and protesters were prevented from going to the designated area. The report also mentioned that mobile internet services were shut down in the Jantar Mantar area.
