In a video message posted on Facebook Live before his arrest, Akhtaruzzaman asked the people of the country for prayers. He said that DB police were arresting him and taking him away. He also expressed his desire to be martyred if necessary while working to protect the interests of the people of the country and especially expatriates.

In the video message, he further said that he is in the struggle for people's rights and that as long as he lives, he will remain beside the people and continue to struggle for them.
Earlier, a case was filed against him on charges of creating disorder over a luggage and trolley crisis at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, obstructing government work, and physically assaulting an on-duty security officer.
