They said this on Friday (October 2) at a discussion meeting organized on the development activities of the Department of Public Health Engineering at its auditorium in Kakrail, the capital.
The Local Government Minister said the government is ready to accept constructive criticism. If any mistake in government work is pointed out, steps will be taken to correct it. However, he urged not to criticize through false information or propaganda.
He said government officials and employees are servants of the people. Even with limited resources, they must work with dedication to serve people and develop the country.
State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said the activities of the Department of Public Health Engineering must be conducted giving importance to the needs of people at the field level. Long-term planning is needed for maintenance of existing infrastructure, waste management and reducing the use of groundwater.
He further said separate funds and necessary allocations are needed for regular maintenance at the field level. He also emphasized taking initiatives to produce fuel from waste in large cities and low-cost waste management in small municipalities and upazilas.
Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Shahidul Hasan, Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering Md. Zamanur Rahman, and other senior officials of the ministry and department were present at the meeting.
