He said this at the opening ceremony of a workshop on the use of online divorce and marriage (Nikah) registration software at the BRAC Learning Centre in the capital on Saturday (October 3).
The Law Minister said that as sub-registrars in Dhaka stay at the same workplace for a long time, they have to face various kinds of lobbying during transfers. To get out of this situation, an initiative is being taken to bring the postings of sub-registrars within Dhaka city under a lottery system. Steps will be taken in this regard following the rules.
He also informed about the plan to link online marriage and divorce registration information with the National Identity Card (NID) and passport. This will make it possible to verify a person's marriage-related information centrally and help prevent child marriage and polygamy.
The Law Minister said that if anyone wants to marry multiple times by concealing information, the previous marriage information will be available in the online system. Similarly, it will be easier to verify registered information in matters of inheritance or taking a wife abroad.
He also said that as a result of preserving information online, marriage and inheritance-related disputes will be reduced in the future and verification of information in various government services will become easier.
