At 12:20 pm on Saturday (October 3), a convoy of three special trucks carrying uranium entered the Rooppur project area. Pabna Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam confirmed the matter.
He said members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB), police and various intelligence agencies, led by the Bangladesh Army, were deployed to provide security for the convoy.
Earlier, on Friday night, a special cargo plane carrying uranium landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. On Saturday morning, the uranium was sent to Rooppur in three trucks under tight security.
Project officials said the shipment was scheduled to arrive in the country on September 24. However, as permission to use Pakistan's airspace was not obtained, it was not possible to operate the cargo flight at the scheduled time.
In 2023, fuel for Rooppur's first unit was brought into the country. In May of this year, that fuel was installed in the nuclear reactor. The plant's two units have a total electricity generation capacity of 2,400 megawatts.
