‘In the country won through the Liberation War, my hands are in handcuffs’: Jamaat leader’s lament

On Saturday (October 3), while being taken to court in a case of Airport Police Station, Akhtaruzzaman said, ‘In the country I gained through the Liberation War, handcuffs have been placed on my hands and a helmet on my head.’ He also claimed that he faced such a situation merely because he spoke about the mismanagement of the airport.

While being taken to court, he spoke to the police from inside the prison van. At one point, throwing away the helmet from his head, he said, ‘We cannot be stopped through oppression and torture.’ He also remarked that the movement to establish people's rights will continue.

On Friday (October 2), DB arrested him on charges of threatening the executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and assaulting the security supervisor. Later, around 7:15 pm, he was handed over to Airport Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Airport Police Station Kamrul Hasan Talukder said that DB had left Akhtaruzzaman at the police station. In the case filed against him, the police station police will conduct the next legal procedures, including interrogation.

Earlier, airport security officer Md. Shahriar Alam Sajib filed the case against Akhtaruzzaman. The case was filed on charges of disorder centering the luggage and trolley crisis, obstruction of government work, and assault.
