Malaysia to take 10,000 workers from Bangladesh in first phase
After a long closure, an initiative has again been taken to send Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia's labour market. Minister of Labour and Employment Ariful Haque Choudhury said 10,000 workers will be taken in the first phase.

At a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday (October 4), he said that this time, importance will be given to skills alongside numbers in sending workers. Workers will be prepared by providing training in Bangladesh according to the demand of Malaysian employers.

Malaysian employers will come to Bangladesh and select workers as needed. However, as the workers’ medical examinations and approval on several matters are still pending, the process has not fully started.

Mentioning allegations of syndicates, extra costs, and harassment last time, the minister said that this time workers will be sent cautiously, taking these matters into consideration.

Meanwhile, the minister said there are plans to launch an ‘Employment Exchange Center’ this year to increase domestic employment. Along with creating a database with information on online and in-person job seekers and institutions’ demand, job fairs and career fairs will be organized. He also said that an initiative will be taken to form a wage board this month after discussions with those concerned.
