On Sunday (October 4), various aspects of the project were discussed at a meeting at the Secretariat between Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and a nine-member delegation led by Jean Pesme, Divisional Director for the World Bank's Bangladesh and Bhutan region.
Tk 7,500 crore project to protect 14 coastal districts
The meeting emphasized flood control, disaster risk reduction, coastal infrastructure development, and ensuring the security and improving the living standards of vulnerable populations. Discussions were also held on water purification, safe water supply, and increasing the use of surface water to tackle salinity.
The minister said the government is interested in working in coordination with the World Bank to create employment opportunities as well as ensure a safe and improved life for the people. The project will play an important role in ensuring the security and improving the living standards of the coastal population.
