In 1994, at the initiative of UNESCO, the formal observance of the day began. Its foundation was laid on October 5, 1966, when UNESCO and the International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted a recommendation in Paris on the dignity, rights and working conditions of teachers. This year marks the 60th anniversary of that recommendation.
Today is World Teachers' Day
This year's World Teachers' Day theme—‘Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing dignity and building our future’. It has highlighted teachers' professional security, dignity and their role in the future education system.
In Bangladesh, marking the day, an initiative has been taken to honor 101 distinguished teachers from various levels, from primary to higher education. Each honored teacher will be given 200,000 taka, a crest and a certificate of honor.
