NCP has become Jamaat-e-Islami: Shajahan Khan

On Monday (October 5), the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed this order. They were shown arrested in a case filed on charges of acquiring assets worth Tk 9 crore 89 lakh 6 thousand 65 inconsistent with known sources of income.

After being produced before the court, Shajahan Khan spoke to journalists. At that time, regarding NCP, he said, ‘They have mixed with Jamaat and become Jamaat-e-Islami.’

The case allegation says that immovable and movable assets worth Tk 10 crore 75 lakh 66 thousand 747 were found in Asibur Rahman's name. The ACC investigation mentioned that information was found about assets worth Tk 9 crore 89 lakh 6 thousand 65 inconsistent with his known sources of income, including family and other expenses.

The ACC alleges that while Shajahan Khan was Shipping Minister and MP, he abused power and assisted his son in acquiring these assets through influence and financial support. However, the allegations have not yet been finally proved in court.

Defence lawyer Mizanur Rahman Badshah denied the allegations and said that Shajahan Khan's legitimate assets amount to about Tk 1.5 crore and that he has been regularly paying income tax. He also claimed that a flat mentioned in the case was bought through a bank loan.

On February 2, 2025, ACC Deputy Director Kamalesh Mondal filed the case as complainant. The case was filed after investigating asset and income-related information from 2009 to 2024.
