Former MP Mukta sent to jail in rickshaw puller murder case

On Tuesday (October 6) morning, when he was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Panchagarh, Judge Mosharraf Hossain ordered him sent to jail. No direct hearing was held for him in the case that day. It is still unknown whether an application will be made to take him on remand.

Earlier at dawn, police arrested him from his house in Kazipara of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila based on a tip-off. Inspector (Investigation) Ashish Kumar Shil of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station confirmed the arrest.

According to the first information report (FIR) of the case, rickshaw puller Al Amin went missing after taking part in the mass uprising on August 5, 2024. Later, his father Manu Mia filed a case with Panchagarh Sadar Police Station on September 10, naming 19 people including Mukta and making another 150 unidentified people accused, on charges of enforced disappearance and murder.

Police said that, in addition to the case over the enforced disappearance and murder of Al Amin during the July uprising, Mukta faces a total of 12 cases, including for vandalism and arson at the BNP office.
