The July Charter will be implemented just as it was signed: Home Minister

On Tuesday (October 6), after the sixth meeting of the committee at the National Parliament Building, he said this while responding to journalists' questions at the Parliament Media Centre.

The Home Minister said the Constitution Amendment Committee is hearing statements from various parties with the aim of implementing the July National Charter. The government is committed to implementing the charter as signed, including the Note of Dissent. However, he also said there is no scope to implement the charter by excluding the Note of Dissent.

He said that in amending the constitution, not only the July National Charter but also various other matters will be taken into consideration. The committee's report will be submitted to present a bill in Parliament, taking into consideration the election manifesto, opinions of people from various classes and professions, and related proposals.

At the meeting, views were exchanged with family members of martyrs of the July mass uprising and the injured. A total of 63 people participated, including mothers and fathers of martyrs, brothers, and representatives of various organizations. They demanded constitutional recognition of the July mass uprising and constitutional protection for the martyrs and injured.

Salahuddin Ahmed said proposals have come to incorporate the relevant matters of the July Declaration in appropriate places in the constitution. Alongside, demands have also been raised to expedite trials of crimes against humanity, genocide, and killings against those responsible in the mass uprising. He also said the government is sincere in expediting these trials.
