The minister said, today's children will become full citizens of the country in the future and build Bangladesh. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the current generation to properly raise children. Children must prepare from now to grow up as good citizens loving the country.
He said, even before global awareness about children's rights was created, martyred President Ziaur Rahman had thought seriously about children's future and rights. He also realized the need to develop children's latent talents and potential and prepare them for future leadership.
In his speech as session chair, Minister of Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Professor Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain said, before the United Nations formally began thinking about children in 1989, in 1976 martyred President Ziaur Rahman had taken initiatives for various programs for the welfare of children.
He informed that the government has taken initiatives to expand Shishu Academy activities in every upazila of the country phase by phase. Underprivileged children will also get equal opportunities in these programs.
Special guest at the event was Selima Rahman, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. The keynote paper was presented by the government's Chief Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed.
