Cottage industry has more income potential than garments: Gayeshwar

He said this at the opening ceremony of the five-day ‘Sharat Mela’ organized by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in the Tejgaon Industrial Area of the capital on Wednesday (October 7).

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said there is demand for traditional products including nakshi kantha, shital pati, clay utensils and terracotta made with the skills of the country's artisans. If the quality of these products is improved alongside increasing effective promotion and marketing facilities, employment will also increase.

Highlighting the role of cottage industry in women's economic self-reliance, he said many women are earning by doing such work from home. If training and necessary support are increased, it will be possible to make them more self-reliant.

Calling for reducing complications in government administration, he said the work of entrepreneurs and businessmen must be settled quickly. If administrative decisions are implemented quickly by keeping the ‘wheel of files’ moving, economic activities will become more dynamic.

He also called for considering the realities of developed and developing countries in distributing responsibility and liability for environmental pollution.
