I Deserve a Nobel, but I Don't Know If They Will Give It: Trump

Speaking to journalists at the Oval Office on Wednesday (7 October) local time, Trump said the Norwegian Nobel Committee has a ‘reputation’ for not giving the award to people like him.

Trump claimed that since taking office for a second term, he has stopped eight conflicts. He also remarked that he therefore deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Although he claimed that leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan nominated him for the award, there is no opportunity to independently verify these claims.

Last January, 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado gave her medal to Trump. Referring to this, Trump said he felt honored to have received the award indirectly from Machado.

However, questions have been raised about his role in some of the conflicts Trump claimed to have stopped. Reports of renewed conflict have emerged in DR Congo and on the Cambodia-Thailand border. The Ukraine war is also still ongoing.

Next Friday (9 October), the Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Among potential candidates, Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court, and the special rapport‌eur on Palestinian territories are being discussed.
