Not authoritarian; officials must be servants: State Minister for Public Administration

He said this while speaking as chief guest at the certificate awarding and closing ceremony of the 146th, 147th, and 148th Law and Administration Course at the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy in Shahbagh on Thursday.

Regarding the upcoming local government elections, the State Minister said that ensuring voters can vote freely is the responsibility of the field administration. For this, he called upon officials to remain neutral.

He said the government is building an accountable civil service, where importance will be given to transparency, the rule of law, and prevention of corruption. He also emphasized increasing the skills of new officials in project management, local resource mobilization, and modern technologies including artificial intelligence.

Highlighting various initiatives of the government, the State Minister spoke about family cards for women, easy access to inputs and financial benefits for farmers, healthcare, and canal excavation activities. He also informed about a plan to supply water from the Bay of Bengal due to the falling groundwater level in Dhaka.

Besides, he mentioned the activities of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to increase VAT and tax collection, the increase in salaries of government employees, and initiatives to increase more benefits in the future according to capacity.

The ceremony was presided over by the Academy's Rector (Secretary) Dr. Mohammad Altaf-ul-Alam. At the time, Course Director Md. Golam Maula, trainees, and senior officials of the ministry and the academy were present.
