He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the country's first bicycle track in Patenga, Chattogram, on Friday.
The minister said cycling on regular roads alongside fast-moving vehicles is risky. Therefore, a separate track has been built on Airport Road for the safe movement of cyclists. There are plans to gradually build more bicycle tracks and walking paths at important places in the city.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said initiatives have been taken to build walking ways and bicycle tracks to ensure the physical and mental well-being of city residents. There are also plans to build bicycle tracks along the banks of 36 canals in the city. He said the inaugurated track will not be allowed to be illegally occupied.
According to CCC sources, the track was built on Airport Road in Patenga at a cost of Tk 24 crore. The organization claims it is the country's first dedicated bicycle track.
