Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society and a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, said that the new crescent moon is likely to be visible to the naked eye on the evening of October 11. Accordingly, the month of Jumada al-Awwal of 1448 AH may begin on October 12.
Citing Al Khaleej newspaper, he said that if Jumada al-Awwal begins, there will be four more lunar months before Ramadan.
According to astronomers’ forecasts, the upcoming Ramadan may be 29 or 30 days long. On that basis, the holy Eid al-Fitr is likely to be celebrated on March 9 or 10, 2027. However, these dates depend on the official announcement of the moon sighting.
