On Sunday (11 October), after a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Alibiruni Mir issued the order. State counsel Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
At the hearing, defence lawyer Mahbubur Rahman sought Gazi Nazrul's bail on compromise terms. However, the state opposed it.
On 20 September, police recovered the hanging body of Gazi Nazrul's second wife, Mst. Mariam Khatun (19), from a flat in the NAM Building in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of the capital. In this incident, Mariam's father Md. Masum Billah filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station on charges of abetment of suicide.
In the case, Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Begum and brother-in-law Obaidur Rahman were made accused. After arrest, on 21 September the court granted four days' remand for Gazi Nazrul and one day's remand for Maksuda. After remand, Maksuda was sent to jail on 22 September.
On 23 September, Mariam's uncle Obaidur Rahman was sent to jail. On the other hand, after four days' remand, Gazi Nazrul was taken on remand for four more days on 24 September. Later, on 30 September, Maksuda Islam got bail.
