He gave this directive in his speech as chair at a meeting held on Sunday afternoon in the conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Division, aimed at ensuring safe and smooth travel for passengers on the occasion of Durga Puja.
The minister said that passenger pressure will increase on various routes across the country during the five-day holiday. At this time, all concerned must play a responsible role in preventing extra fare collection, passenger harassment, and unwanted incidents. It must be ensured that the joy of the Puja and people's journeys are not disrupted in any way.
The meeting decided to stop extra fare collection, launch special bus services of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, keep adequate ferries ready, operate mobile courts to prevent irregularities, and deploy law enforcement personnel at bridge toll plazas.
In addition, instructions were given to temporarily repair important roads around Dhaka, introduce three pairs of special trains on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Cox's Bazar routes considering passenger pressure, attach additional coaches on other routes, and take necessary measures to stop black market ticket sales. Emphasis was also placed on strengthening security on road, rail, and waterways considering possible crowds around idol immersion.
State Minister for the Ministry of Railways and Road Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid, and State Minister for the Ministry of Shipping and Bridges Division Md. Rajib Ahsan, along with representatives of relevant ministries, government agencies, bus owners' associations, and the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, were present at the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the minister called upon all relevant organizations to work in mutual coordination to celebrate Durga Puja peacefully and ensure safe and comfortable travel for people during the holidays.
