He made the remark while responding to a question from journalists at the Bhola Circuit House on Thursday (October 21) morning, referring to his political experience.
The Speaker said that during the Awami League's rule, an environment was created in which honest and good people did not have the opportunity to participate in elections, and there had been no fair election in the country in the past 17 years. Calling for fundamental reform of the electoral system, he said the Election Commission must create a system under which acceptable ordinary people in society, even if not wealthy, can participate in elections. At the same time, he expressed hope that the upcoming local government elections will be free and fair.
At this time, referring to Bhola's natural gas as the legitimate right of local people, he said he would talk to the energy minister soon to resolve the long-standing suffering of the people here. Bhola Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman and Superintendent of Police Shahidullah Kawsar, along with local leaders and administration officials, were present at the press briefing.
