On Monday (October 26), in a statement, TIB Executive Director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said, the police's responsibility is to identify criminals through professional investigation and bring them to justice. Bringing crossfire to the fore as an alternative to this is not a solution to institutional weaknesses, rather it is an example of professional bankruptcy. He also said, the IGP on one hand speaks of performing duties in accordance with the constitution, and on the other hand speaks of crossfire with government permission—which is contradictory. No government permission can legitimise extrajudicial killing.

Referring to past incidents such as the Sinha killing, the death of Ekramul Haque and the seven murders in Narayanganj, Iftekharuzzaman said, these incidents prove the severity of abuse of power by law enforcement agencies. What lesson the police have learned from this, the IGP himself must answer. The statement also noted that there is an inconsistency between the law minister's previous statement and the IGP's statement. Alongside, TIB warned that the allegation of wholesale criticism of journalists could be a threat to independent journalism.
