‘I removed Hasina’s photo from the office out of moral conscience’

As the July mass uprising was taking its final shape, Jahangirnagar University (JU) Bangla Department chairperson Professor Shamima Sultana removed the photo of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from her office to protest the attacks, arrests, torture and killings of protesting students.

On August 1, 2024, a photo of Professor Shamima Sultana sitting in her office room went viral on social media. In the photo, it was seen that there was no photo of Sheikh Hasina on the wall behind Shamima Sultana’s chair.
