The finance minister made the remarks at a seminar organized by AmCham at the InterContinental Hotel in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

He said the country's economy cannot be advanced without electricity and gas. The government is working to resolve the crisis.

Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the electricity and gas crisis has been inherited from the past. This problem cannot be solved within six months or a year. However, the government is not wasting any time in solving the gas and electricity problem.

Saying that work is going on tirelessly to resolve the crisis, he said an energy mix is being prepared combining renewable energy, gas and coal-based electricity for the future energy system.

The finance minister said the government is working to improve the business environment by reducing red tape, corruption and harassment in the tax system. He also said the country's capital market is now in a better position than before.
