On Sunday (July 12), due to inclement weather, his second funeral prayer was held at the tunnel of the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The Prime Minister, Speaker, Opposition Leader, Members of Parliament, family members, long-time colleagues and well-wishers participated. Those present recalled his contributions to his long political and parliamentary life.
After the funeral, floral tributes were paid on behalf of the President, Prime Minister and Speaker. Later, he was buried at a designated place in the National Parliament building.
Earlier, the first funeral prayer was held in Dhanmondi.
BNP said that due to the stormy weather, it was not possible to take the body to his home district of Panchagarh. Therefore, the decision was made to bury him in the capital.
Meanwhile, BNP will observe a nationwide mourning program on Monday (July 13) following the death of Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar.
It is to be noted that Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital early Sunday. His death has cast a shadow of deep mourning in the political arena and various quarters.
