This information was provided in a notice signed by the committee chairman and chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, on Monday night (July 13).
The notice stated that due to flood damage from heavy rains, various exam centers of the Chattogram Education Board have been damaged and it is difficult for examinees to reach the centers safely, so exams for that board have been postponed until July 16. This decision was made based on the opinions of Upazila Executive Officers (UNOs) and District Commissioners.
On the other hand, most exam centers of other education boards in the country are suitable for holding exams. Based on reports from the district administration, law enforcement agencies, and local administration, a decision has been made to continue exams according to the predetermined schedule.
The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee said that the 2026 HSC and equivalent exams are being held at 2,697 centers under 11 education boards in the country. A total of 1,270,583 examinees are participating.
The notice further stated that since exams are held with common question papers, it is not practical to postpone exams for all boards due to the situation in one board. However, if there is a risk of severe disruption to examinee safety or exam conduct due to natural disasters in any area, the concerned District Commissioner can assess the situation and take necessary immediate decisions.
Meanwhile, it was reported that on Monday, due to adverse weather, examinees at some centers, especially at Cumilla Government Women's College center, faced some travel difficulties, but with the cooperation of the local administration and concerned parties, they were able to participate in the exam on time.
The committee further noted that repeated postponement of exams risks disrupting result publication, university admission activities, and the overall education calendar. Therefore, giving utmost importance to the lives and safety of students, the situation is being monitored and necessary decisions are being made.
Students and guardians have been urged to follow the instructions of the education board and the Ministry of Education, and considering the adverse weather, to leave for the exam center with ample time in hand.
