This information was provided in a report titled 'Rainfall and River Situation and Forecast' signed by Assistant Engineer (Officer on Duty) Nusrat Jahan Jerin of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center on Tuesday (July 14).

The report states that the flood situation in the low-lying areas adjacent to rivers in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts may stabilize and gradually improve. At the same time, floodwater is also likely to recede in areas adjacent to the Teesta River in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts.

However, there is a risk of new short-term flooding in several districts of Rangpur division. According to the forecast, the water of the Teesta River at Kaunia point in Rangpur district may temporarily cross the danger level. Additionally, water levels in the Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in Gaibandha and Kurigram may approach the warning level, posing a risk of temporary flooding in adjacent low-lying areas.

Currently, water is flowing above the danger level at five river monitoring stations in the country. These are—the Teesta at Dalia in Nilphamari, the Surma at Chhatak in Sunamganj, the Kushiyara at Markuli, the Kushiyara at Fenchuganj in Sylhet, and the Someshwari at Kalmakanda in Netrokona.

The rainfall forecast said that over the next 72 hours, moderate to moderately heavy rainfall may occur in the interior of the country as well as in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal of India, which could affect the flow of rivers.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said that there is a possibility of rain with thunder in all divisions of the country in the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall may occur in some places. At the same time, the temperature across the country may increase by up to 3 degrees Celsius, according to the forecast.

On the other hand, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said that 54 people have died so far in eight flood-affected districts. More than 6 lakh people have been affected by the floods.
