In a long status update on social media on Wednesday (July 22), Bonny Amin said he is still in the historic city of Rome, Italy, and is safe. He also said that after meeting with Italian law enforcement, he will soon release the full details of the incident in a video message.
In the status, Bonny Amin claimed that a group of people launched a sudden attack on him around 11 PM in the Bangladeshi-dominated Tor Pignattara area of Rome. He alleged that he was deliberately targeted because of his political stance and expression of opinions regarding his birthplace, Bangladesh.
He further claimed that the Italian authorities are investigating the identities of those involved in the attack, their roles, and whether there was any larger plan behind it. The police have collected video footage and various pieces of evidence related to the incident, which are being examined.
Bonny Amin said he believes that in a democratic country governed by the rule of law, the truth will be uncovered through investigation, and action will be taken against the real perpetrators according to Italian law.
In the status, he said that attacks, intimidation, or any kind of pressure will not stop him from speaking out for his beliefs and justice. He also mentioned that his stance in favor of Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty, democracy, and human dignity will continue.
He further wrote that adversity will not stop him; rather, it will make him stronger. Even though he is outside the country, his love for Bangladesh remains unwavering, and he will continue to speak out against injustice.
In the concluding part of the status, Bonny Amin called for building global resistance against the Awami League. At the same time, he claimed that he will continue to speak publicly about various irregularities and activities of the past 17 years.
It is noteworthy that on Tuesday (July 21) night, a video of the attack on Bonny Amin in Rome, Italy, spread on social media. Following the incident, widespread discussion began. However, Italian law enforcement has not yet published any official investigation report regarding the cause of the attack or the identities of the attackers.
