President Md. Sahabuddin to resign on Friday, Speaker to take charge

The report said the President will submit his resignation letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly by Friday noon.

Quoting family members, the report further stated that the President is seriously ill. Recently, his CT scan and MRI tests at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) revealed neurological complications. In this situation, he wants to step down and go to Singapore with his wife for advanced treatment.

According to the Constitution of Bangladesh, if the President is unable to perform his duties, he submits his resignation to the Speaker of the National Assembly. If the President's post becomes vacant, the Speaker will serve as Acting President until a new President is elected and assumes office.

According to the Constitution, after the President's post becomes vacant, the process of electing a new President will be completed within a specified time.

However, no official announcement was made from Bangabhaban or the government regarding the President's resignation until Thursday night.
