Speaking as the chief guest at a meeting today (Wednesday, 29 July 2026) in the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat to review the overall progress of tree plantation, beautification, and replacement of dustbins after removing garbage at various places under Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation, in accordance with the directives of the Honorable Prime Minister, he said these words.
Deputy Minister for Local Government instructs to accelerate activities of two city corporations for implementation of PM's 'Clean and Green City'
At the beginning of the meeting, the overall progress of tree plantation and beautification activities of the two city corporations, ongoing programs, and future plans were presented. At that time, it was informed that integrated work is being done by involving various non-governmental development organizations (NGOs) and volunteer organizations in the city cleanliness and greening activities.
The Deputy Minister said that work must be done in a planned manner so that citizens can actually feel the results of every initiative. He instructed to further increase the pace of ongoing activities and said that before taking up new large projects, the effectiveness of pilot projects should be evaluated. Successful initiatives will be implemented gradually on a larger scale.

He instructed to prepare an updated list of where tree plantation, beautification, and cleanliness activities are being carried out. Additionally, he gave directives to specifically preserve and present to the ministry information on where new tree plantation has been done, beautification work has been completed, and dustbins have been installed—these details.
The Deputy Minister emphasized regular monitoring and effective field-level supervision of cleanliness activities, saying that continuity must be maintained in the initiative to build a clean city. He noted that the Honorable Prime Minister herself closely monitors and inspects these activities. Therefore, it is very important that every initiative is realistic, effective, and visible. He called upon everyone to work collectively for the implementation of the government's "Clean and Green City".
The meeting was attended by Hamidur Rahman, Member of Parliament from Dhaka-7 constituency, and from Dhaka South City Corporation: Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam, Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Health Officer Dr. Jahane Ferdous Binte Rahman, Chief Engineer Nur Azizur Rahman; and from Dhaka North City Corporation: Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury. Also present were Joint Secretary of Urban Development Sub-Division Parimal Sarkar and other senior officials of the ministry.
