The US Embassy in Dhaka confirmed his arrival in the capital on Thursday (July 30).
On this occasion, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen said in a statement, “I am delighted to welcome my friend, US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gor to Bangladesh. His visit will further strengthen the strategic partnership, regional security and economic cooperation between the US and Bangladesh.”
On the first day of his visit, Sergio Gor will meet with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman. The meeting is expected to discuss Bangladesh government's foreign policy priorities, Dhaka-Washington bilateral relations and various issues of mutual cooperation.
As part of his itinerary, he will visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar. There he will be briefed on the refugee situation and humanitarian assistance activities.
In addition, during the visit, the US special envoy will also hold meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, leaders of various political parties, professionals and representatives of civil society.
Those concerned believe that Sergio Gor's visit will play an important role in further strengthening Bangladesh-US relations, regional security and economic cooperation.
