Journalist threatened with shooting death in Sonargaon

In the complaint, Md. Russell Hossain stated that when he protested, on behalf of the residents of Sollapara area, against illegal gas connections, the accused became angry with him. 

According to the complaint, at around 10:30 pm on July 31, 2026, while he was in front of Ahammad Ali's house in North Sollapara area of Sonargaon upazila, the accused Md. Dulal Mia (45) and Islam (36) hurled obscene abuses at him. The written complaint further states that at one stage, Dulal Mia publicly threatened to shoot and kill him. At the same time, another accused, Islam, reportedly threatened to evict him from the area permanently.

The victim claimed that the accused is a locally influential Awami League leader. Since the accused Dulal Mia is an accused in multiple cases, including a murder case, the victim's family members are currently suffering from extreme insecurity. 

The victim expressed apprehension, saying that at any time the accused may attack him or his family members, and may even cause a major untoward incident, deteriorating the law and order situation in the area.

The complaint also mentioned that there are multiple eyewitnesses to the incident, and their identities will be disclosed to law enforcement later in the interest of investigation. The complaint was filed at the police station after consulting with family members and relatives, keeping his own safety in mind. 

In this regard, the victim has appealed to the police station to conduct a proper investigation into the incident and take necessary legal action against the accused.

In this regard, it has been reported that Sonargaon police station has accepted the complaint and said necessary legal action would be taken subject to investigation.
