Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed informed this while talking to journalists at the Election Commission Secretariat on Monday (August 3).

He said no date or schedule has been fixed yet for the presidential election. However, as part of the preparations for holding the election, the voter list has been sought from the National Parliament.

Regarding the local government elections, Akhtar Ahmed said no discussion has been held with the government yet. However, the Election Commission has kept the necessary preparations in place. He informed that if local government elections do not start by October, it may be necessary to extend the deadline for finalizing the voter list.

Meanwhile, although the deadline for submitting the annual income-expenditure accounts of registered political parties has ended, eight parties have yet to submit their accounts to the Election Commission.

The parties that did not submit their accounts are — Jagpa, Trinamool BNP, Insaniyat Biplab Bangladesh, Bangladesh National Socialist Party, Bangladesh Supreme Party, National Citizens Party (NCP), Aam Janata Party and Janatar Dal.

According to Election Commission sources, registered political parties were required to submit their annual income-expenditure accounts for 2025 by July 31. However, since it was a government holiday that day, the deadline was extended to August 2.

Within the scheduled time, 38 out of 59 registered political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, have submitted their income-expenditure accounts to the Election Commission.

On the other hand, 13 political parties, including Gano Odhikar Parishad and Jatiya Party, have applied for an extension of time as they could not prepare their accounts within the stipulated period.

The EC Senior Secretary said that although the deadline has passed, eight political parties, including NCP, have still not submitted their annual income-expenditure accounts.
