He said this on Monday (August 3) while speaking as a special guest at a views-exchange meeting with members of the concerned societies regarding the sewage and waste management system of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan areas, organized by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) at Gulshan Society Park in the capital.
The Deputy Minister said, under the direction of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman, various activities are being implemented to ensure greening, cleanliness and modern urban management in Dhaka metropolis. However, to ensure the success of these initiatives, active participation of citizens along with government agencies is also essential.
He said the government would consider with due importance the problems and suggestions raised by the representatives of the societies at the meeting. He also assured that necessary steps would be taken for realistic and sustainable solutions.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Julai paid tribute to the martyrs of the July movement and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He informed that to make the sewage and waste management of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan areas more effective, the sewerage networks of these areas will gradually be connected to the Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
Housing and Public Works Deputy Minister Ahmmed Sohel Manjur and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan also spoke as special guests at the meeting.
Chaired by RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, the meeting was attended by Dhaka WASA Managing Director Md. Aminul Islam, Gulshan Society President Omar Sadat, Banani Society President Shawkat Ali Bhuiyan (Dilon), Baridhara Society President Sakif Arif Tabani, Niketan Society President Dr. Md. Abul Bashar, along with officials from various concerned departments.
At the beginning of the event, representatives of five private organizations gave brief PowerPoint presentations on Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) technology and modern sewage and waste management.
