On Thursday night (August 6), a team of Mymensingh RAB-14 conducted an operation based on information technology and intelligence inputs and detained Ripon Mia from Gauripur. Major Mir Ishtiaq Amin, commander of RAB's headquarters company, confirmed this information.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, the victim schoolgirl's father filed a case at Netrokona Model Thana naming Ripon Mia and eight other unidentified people as accused. Since the case was filed, Ripon had gone into hiding to avoid arrest.

Netrokona Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Khayer said that a shalish (arbitration) was held on Monday night at a BNP party office in a local market over the rape incident. There, it was decided to fine Ripon Mia Tk 5 lakh and banish him from the area. When several video clips of this arbitration spread on social media, it created a stir.

Mihir Ranjan Dev, inspector (investigation) of Netrokona Model Thana and investigation officer of the case, said that RAB has handed over Ripon Mia to Mymensingh Kotwali Thana and he is being brought to Netrokona from there.

Local residents and the victim's family alleged that on August 1, while the girl was cooking in the courtyard in the evening, Ripon forcibly took her to the nearby jungle and raped her. At the time of the incident, both her parents were working outside the home. When neighbors rushed to the girl's screams, Ripon fled.

The victim is a seventh-grade student at a local school. Accused Ripon is the son of Manjil Mia of Dakshin Bishiura village in Netrokona Sadar upazila. However, he had been living in the neighboring Nandura village for several years.

Ripon Mia, a carpenter by profession, gained recognition by making videos on Facebook since 2016. He became popular through these dialogue-based videos such as 'Hi I Am Ripon Video' and 'I Love You, This Is Reality'. His Facebook page named 'Ripon Mia', opened in 2019, currently has nearly 1.9 million followers.
